If you have experience in payroll systems implementation and enjoy driving stability while overseeing the day-to-day operations, this role is for you.

Robertson Bell are excited to be partnering with a well-established organisation in the charity sector to recruit a Payroll Manager on a permanent basis. Reporting to the Director of Finance, this role offers the opportunity to manage a team of three capable payroll officers and oversee a payroll of over a thousand employees, including a mix of weekly and monthly payrolls.

In this Payroll Manager role, you will:

  • Oversee the payroll process for over 1,000 employees, ensuring all information is processed accurately and on time, including weekly and monthly payrolls and pensions.
  • Manage and mentor a team of three payroll officers, offering guidance and support while maintaining consistency and efficiency within the payroll process.
  • Lead your team through the ongoing implementation of a new payroll system, i-Trent with the system going live early next year.
  • Provide technical advice on pensions, including teachers’ pensions, while overseeing the smooth-running of the business-as-usual payroll function.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements, focusing on maintaining stability within your team during the transition to the new system.

This is a fully-remote opportunity for a Payroll Manager with experience in payroll and pensions, particularly those familiar with system implementations, to shape and improve a vital function within a fantastic organisation. To succeed in this role, you will:

  • Have solid experience as a Payroll Manager, ideally with exposure to the not-for-profit sector.
  • Have experience with payroll systems implementations, with i-Trent experience highly desirable.
  • Be a strong people manager, capable of guiding a team through change with empathy and understanding, without being overly directive.
  • Have a solid understanding of payroll and pensions, with experience in managing complex payrolls (ideally across multiple payrolls).
  • Have the ability to provide technical advice and support on pensions.
