Are you an experienced Payroll Manager ready to step into a high-impact interim role? Can you manage end-to-end payroll processes and implement improvements in a fast-paced environment? Are you confident building resilience and documenting processes from scratch?

A Kent-based Not For Profit organisation is urgently seeking an Interim Payroll Manager on a three-month contract to provide expert payroll services during a critical time. This standalone role will oversee payroll for a few hundred employees, manage the full payroll cycle, address manual calculations, and deliver immediate process improvements.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing end-to-end payroll, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Performing manual inputs for holiday pay, overtime, leavers, and first pay calculations.
  • Maintaining the payroll inbox, actioning queries, and ensuring smooth workflows.
  • Documenting processes, identifying responsibilities, and building resilience within the payroll function.
  • Reviewing and improving payroll processes, with opportunities to implement automation and system enhancements.
  • Providing expert guidance on best use of payroll systems, including potential upgrades and unused modules/applications.
  • Preparing and submitting payroll-related reports, including pension returns, HMRC filings, and financial reconciliations.
  • Supporting payroll projects, including PSA reviews and process improvements.

This role offers a rare opportunity to make a lasting impact on the organisation’s payroll function, with the flexibility to work remotely after the initial month, which ideally should have a regular presence in the Kent office to learn the business. You’ll also have the chance to lead on wider payroll projects, including preparing for upcoming changes like upcoming P11D updates.

To be considered, please meet the following criteria:

  • Proven experience managing end-to-end payroll, ideally within a standalone role.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll systems.
  • Excellent ability to identify and implement process improvements.
  • Experience documenting workflows and building resilience within a wider Finance team.
  • Understanding of payroll compliance, including HMRC regulations, pensions, and PSA reviews.
  • Confident handling manual calculations for overtime, holiday pay, and other complex scenarios.

This is an urgent requirement with interviews happening quickly. Apply now!
