We’re supporting a leading housing organisation in the search for a Financial Controller - a critical leadership role at the heart of a complex and values-led business. This is a pivotal opportunity for a seasoned finance professional to lead all aspects of statutory financial reporting, external audit, and compliance for a group with net assets in the billions.

The key duties of this Financial Controller are as follows:

  • Oversee the preparation of group and entity-level financial statements, ensuring timely and accurate submissions.
  • Manage the full external audit cycle, from planning to sign-off, and lead on all external financial returns including regulatory and statistical submissions.
  • Provide expert guidance on complex accounting issues, ensuring financial policies remain up to date with evolving standards and sector-specific requirements.
  • Translate technical matters into clear advice for senior stakeholders to support sound operational and strategic decisions.
  • Ensure robust controls are in place across all accounting processes, safeguarding the accuracy and integrity of financial information.
  • Streamline reporting processes and leverage system capabilities to improve accuracy and efficiency.
  • Inspire and support a team of finance professionals, creating a culture of performance, accountability, and learning.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A full professional accounting qualification.
  • Proven leadership in a senior financial accounting or technical finance role within an organisation possessing a large asset base.
  • Expertise in statutory reporting, audit management and accounting standards.
  • Strong experience leading teams, shaping policy, and optimising systems and processes.
  • A background working in either the social housing or not-for-profit sector, within an organisation.
