Robertson Bell is delighted to be partnering with a growing organisation to recruit a Financial Controller on a permanent basis. This is a key leadership role within the finance function, overseeing financial accounting, reporting, and compliance, while supporting decision-making at the highest level.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead the financial accounting and reporting function, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and financial reporting requirements.
  • Oversee the production of annual accounts and financial statements, ensuring accuracy and scrutiny in line with external audit requirements.
  • Manage a team of five, with one direct report, providing guidance and mentorship to support their professional development.
  • Lead on the year-end process, ensuring smooth coordination with auditors and adherence to strict deadlines.
  • Oversee the modelling of financial liabilities, including PFI and intangible assets.
  • Provide expert advice on VAT treatments and financial controls, liaising with finance business partners across the organisation.
  • Work closely with key stakeholders, including audit committees and senior leadership, to provide strategic financial insights.

This role is based in Liverpool with a hybrid working arrangement of 2-3 days per week in the office. You will benefit from a competitive salary, a generous employer contribution above 25%, and excellent annual leave entitlement.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be a fully qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with post-qualification experience.
  • Have strong technical knowledge of financial reporting standards, ideally with experience in public sector or complex organisations.
  • Possess excellent financial modelling and Excel skills, with the ability to analyse large datasets and provide meaningful insights.
  • Demonstrate experience in leading financial accounting teams and improving financial controls.
  • Have the ability to engage confidently with senior stakeholders and external Auditors.
  • Be proactive, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities effectively.
