Client profile

The Anglican Communion is one of the world’s largest Christian communities. It has tens of millions of members in more than 165 countries around the globe. It is made up of 41 provinces which are autonomous and free to make their own decisions, but are guided by recommendations from the:

  • Archbishop of Canterbury
  • Anglican Consultative Council
  • Primates’ Meeting
  • Lambeth Conference

Based near Paddington, the Anglican Communion Office is the permanent Secretariat for the Instruments.

Assignment

Robertson Bell has recently worked with the organisation on an exclusive assignment to recruit an Interim Financial Accountant on an initial 6-month contract. This placement builds upon our strong existing relationship with Anglican Communion Office, having worked on a number of exclusive campaigns including a Head of Finance position in early 2020.

Considerations and challenges

  • Sourcing a candidate that possessed both the seniority and high level of technical skills required to undertake more complex aspects of the role while also being able and willing to provide hands on support in more junior areas too.
  • The candidate needed to support the vision and values of the organisation as well as add to the excellent culture that already existed within the team. A passion for the not-for-profit sector was also key.
  • The role was time critical and needed to be filled quickly, as the responsibilities of the position had been vacated as a result of an internal promotion.

Solution

As a reputable organisation in the sector, Anglican Communion Office sought the expertise of our consultants in order to implement a high quality, focused search. Throughout the process we worked closely with the Director of Finance to understand the specific requirements and skills needed for the position.

A branded advertising campaign was utilised and ran across a number of targeted job boards and social media platforms in order to reach the desired pool of candidates.

In addition to the targeted advertisements, our consultants utilised our expansive database to identify existing candidate pools comprised of talent with a known interest in the not-for-profit sector. We also took to leveraging our vast networks across LinkedIn and other social media platforms to reach passive candidates.

Outcome

The targeted campaign drew in a significant number of high-quality responses, however, the final shortlist that we presented to the client was comprised of four professionals sourced through existing candidate pools, LinkedIn and internal recommendations.

After completing a thorough interview process, the successful candidate came recommended by a consultant at Robertson Bell who had worked with them on an application for another role with similar requirements.

The value of working with a recruitment specialist was demonstrated particularly well here, as our consultants were able to align the skills and vision of both the client and the candidate to result in a successful placement.
